Barby V Nuneaton

Barby V Nuneaton

Barby went down to another heavy defeat on Saturday leaving skipper Joel Gleghorn wondering what it takes to stop the losing habit.

Nuneaton won the toss and chose to bat first on a greenish early season pitch. Opener Aaron Carvell elected to chance his arm and it came off. Chancy throughout he made a quick fire 76 whilst those around struggled. Barby’s bowling whilst improved from the previous week still lacked discipline and no balls and wides continued to be a problem.

Liam Franks 1-29 and Craig Scott 1-28 both bowled well but the pick of the bowlers was Adithya Chandran who picked up 4-29. The fielding other than another sharp catch by Rob Field and a sharp stumping by Tom Gleghorn was sub standard with a number of chances missed. Nuneaton finished on 209 which was probably 30-40 runs above par.

As is so often the case when things are not going a sides way, Barby’s chances were not helped when opener Field was unfortunately given out caught behind with only 4 on the board.

Things steadied with Joel Gleghorn’s 30 and Adithya Chandran’s 21 at the crease but the going was slow as Nuneaton bowled and fielded far more tidily than Barby and all batsmen struggled for form. As scoreboard pressure grew, wickets fell at regular intervals leaving Barby all out for a disappointing 109.
